PPA snatch late equaliser!

A quick one. Another late start to the game, and it seems like the new DRM strategy is to turn up late, make sure the ref’s arrival is also delayed so it doesn’t look like we’re the cause of the kick-off delay, and all that to ensure we don’t play more than an hour so we don’t get caught out late in the game with tired legs! Seems to be getting us the results however!

We continued our experimental 3-5-2 on the field, with Hailmey playing a deep holding role similar to the job Flamini would take on for the Gunners and it definitely gave us the advantage in the middle of the park as it allowed G Khai and Amir our more creative players to play to their strengths.

It wasn’t however until MOTM Ari came for the more defensive One Tabang to play left-wing back that we put our two first half goals away. Ari on both occasions initiating two quick counter attacks from the flanks, the first one putting Amir S free and through on goal where he rounded the keeper and made it easy for Julberg to tap in, and the second setting up G Khai for a slammer from outside the box.

The second half saw up set up stall for a more defensive performance, G Khai and Nazrul playing centre-backs with the big Saiful Bulan infront of them, and although it looked like we would hold on to the lead for most of the game, we eventually let in the equalizer and that was how the game would end.

Rijal overcomes hoodoo to take last minute winner over Menang FC

True to their form, the boys in blue & yellow managed another win in the league again this time against our local derby rivals Menang FC.

As always with these Menang - DRM games, it takes awhile to sort out the starting line-up with many players having dual allegiances being regulars for both teams, and so it often boils down to which team really needs you more. This ofcourse normally takes oh half an hour or so to sort out, but fitted in fine yesterday as the referee was also late to arrive.

After much squabbling and all sorts of threats flying around, we finally arrived to a consensus and amazingly eleven players for each side with a few subs to spare! And it’s only in a game like this that you’ll find the subs carrying both jersey’s just in case!

The first half exchanges were very cordial it almost seemed as if we weren’t really playing to score more like playing for a run out, and it really meant that we could afford to play with just three at the back as we flooded the middle of the park with those people who just love running all over the pitch.

And ofcourse after spending a week in samba school on the same sands that legends like Adriana Lima and Gisele have graced, Amirio was also keen to show the rest of the boys the new flicks and skills he’d pick up. Renato on the other hand was happy to just sit back and make sure that none of the Menang players would do a Brazilian over him.

Unfortunately it was not a ‘carioca’ in blue who’d make the first impact on the game, instead it was a ‘viadiu’ (portugese for pundan) in yellow who got around the DRM defense and over the keeper. A lapse in concentration by the back line on the left allowed Danan to get by and he made it easy for a yellow ‘viadiu’ to slot past our loan keeper.

And that was how it was to stay until close to the end of the first half when an Amir D corner was met by Azelin and his first touch was to chest it down, whilst his second was to volley it into the back of the net for the equalizer. This came after a number of chances spurned by the same player, his deceptive pace almost always taking him past the defenders but his final shot was never really up to the mark.

Alex who whilst on the Menang back-line at the end of the 1st half managed two goal line clearances to deny both Ari and Rijal, switched sides at half time and played at the back for DRM instead, helping us ward off the Menang’s attempt to regain the lead.

Rahimin who came on in the 2nd half also helped to stabilize the midfield after Hailmey came off, in his usual no nonsense style of play sitting infront of the two centre-backs terrorizing the centre midfield area.

It was man of the match rijal who stole the limelight however in the 2nd half, as DRM’s tired legs meant that both Amir S and Amir D dropped further back spraying the long balls into the penalty area for Rijal to run on to. And he certainly had his fair share of chances, missing from a variety of opportunities … left foot, right foot, headers and even from inside the box.

So it was actually a good move throwing on experienced striker Aizul, who coached and guided way-ward Rijal into actually making the right moves in attack. And it all fell into place when close to the final whistle and Amir D through ball from the centre of the park left Rijal with a one-to-one, Aizul following closely behind. He calmly rounded the keeper and although he hesitated for a split second or two, eventually he managed to find his bearings and DRM were at last in lead with just minutes to go.

The Menang come-back spirit was not to be dampened however, as powerhouse forward Saiful Bulan attempted two last ditch strikes, one coming off Renny’s shoulder, whilst the other was palmed away in the corner by the DRM loan keeper.

DRM Finally Register A Hard Fought Win!!

A quick one. This was our fourth game and after a string of bad luck and some costly defending mistakes we finally managed to score more than we could concede yesterday afternoon to register that elusive first win and the three points that would take us off the bottom of the league table, where i am sure we definitely don't belong. One thing that has hit us this campaign has been an inability to stop the leak at the back, 12 goals conceded in 3 games puts us just behind East B with 18, but really that has always been DRM's style of play.

Worth mentioning though was the manner in which our attack play decimated the Hoist defense in the 1st half. We scored after just a few minutes, when after a corner was won, Danan's inswinger fooled everyone including the keeper to deflect off someone's head and into the back of the net. Tragically we conceded quite soon after that, but the way the game was going it was soon before an Azelin jinking run found him rounding the keeper for his first.

In some way, the referee had been kind to us as the next two DRM goals would probably have been called for offside on any other day. The first was when a through ball from Danan found Sulhi in some space and he slotted that in from the left easy.

A second came from a Rijal cross on the right where he'd been working hard creating chances all day, and some major confusion amongst the Hoist defenders as four of our boys looked to run at the final ball, all of them arguably offside. The on-form Azelin got to the end of that and he didnt dissapoint with his finishing.

We ended up 5 - 3 up at half time, with a seemingly comfy 2 goal cushion, and with the intent of preserving our lead, we opted to keep the strong back line of G Khai, Fakhrul, One Tabang & Vincent hoping to frustrate the Hoist team further.

That we did succeed in doing, and it was a testament to our resolute that we held on for the eventual win as they tried everything they could to claw back in to the game. And that included kicking at anything and everything in the way.

There was a 2nd half flash point as alot of smack talk and finger pointing resulted in Fakhrul getting a yellow for his efforts. Though he was fully justified in feeling aggrieved at nearly having his head whacked off his neck whilst on the ground.

In the end we held on dearly as they scored the one goal in the 2nd to make it an extremely close finish. Extremely relieved we were... as yoda would put it!

A shock win for DRM

Despite our recent run of good form, this was the one game i felt we'd struggle with as the F19 Hustlerz are the equivalent of a superclub within our small footballing circle. They have strength in depth with a young team made up of pedigree players who have played for the district's best teams. Looking at it from that point of view, that would probably make us a team of bandit footballers in comparison.

Things didn't look very good at the start either as we barely managed to string a team of 11 players, even having to draft our injured captain in goal as none of our established keepers turned up.

The first half was abit of a cat and mouse game really. We kicked off the half and immediately were put on the back foot as the F19 forwards raced up the pitch and really didn't give us any breathing space at the back. To our credit we managed to string a number of good passes around but were occasionally let down but that stray and far too often we caught static whilst in possession. The Hustlerz on the other hand were smooth operators on the ball, feeding their fleet footed strikers with plenty of through passes for them to run on to.

So it was the Hustlerz who broke the first duck, and it happened not more than 10 minutes into the game. A through ball from midfield broke our DRM offside line high up the pitch and it left them with just Azelin in goal to deal with.

I'd like to think that we're not a team that throws in the towel that easily and so we fought back, and it was from a counter on the left led by a mazy Amir S run that put Haidi through on goal and his low shot beat the keeper across his body and tucked nicely in the bottom right corner. Haidi is a man on a mission these days and he was determined to prove that his January performance was no fluke.

It was a cat and mouse game as i said earlier, because not too long after that F19 went back up 2 - 1. Again we were caught high up on the pitch and there was too much pace there for any of us to deal with. Azelin was easily beaten the second time, and we were left thinking if this were going to be how the rest of the night would be.

Fadil on the other hand had other plans. Having scored 5 in the last 3 games, he wasn't going to let Haidi take the brunt of the goal scoring for the team. Some fancy work in midfield and Hammry and Khai TSW really worked hard in the 1st half to set up some nice runs, feeding Fadil and Haidi upfront.

And it was from one of those midfield run of play that Amir S coming in fast from the centre, put through Fadil and he toe poked it into the back of the net to level things for DRM.

At the back, the defense were not letting anything get by, let off for the second time, they were determined not to concede any further and some take no prisoners tackling really proved their intent.

Khai TSW again was instrumental in setting up the third goal. Again it was from a counter attack, and Amir S was put through on the left. He fed Fadil with one of those balls that just seem to slip in between players. Fadil calmly slotted that the same way his first went in and we were up for once in the game.

So we went into the half time break with spirits high from that comeback from what seemed like a dead end and it didn't seem all lost after all.

We encountered some manning problems at the start of the second. Danan had to come off injured, whilst Javier had to scoot off for a worthwhile cause (you better give me good news man!) .

That meant having to resort to the cheeky option of asking the F19 guys for a spare player. And obligingly they lent us Saharin who is a regular DRM Fun Game player much to our relief.

Fadil made the switch to centre back in the second half, determined to keep the score at 3 - 2. And we adopted a somewhat siege mentality defending at all costs our slender fragile lead going into the half.

The move paid off really as he was commanding at the back in our attempts to halt the F19 onslaught. Whilst they were really looking to lick their wounds after throwing away two first half leads.

And they must have had at least 15 corners to prove the point. Whilst we dealt with them pretty well in the most part, there were some scares. Saiful who did not put a foot wrong at all in the game, clearing from off the line was one such incident.

Then a moment of madness, F19 with the ball on the flanks out wide right, and their winger whipped one in with Renny left stranded with two strikers behind him. He inexplicably stuck his hand out in the box and it was clear what the referee had to do.

Much to his relief however, Azelin was up to the challenge, and he coolly palmed the penalty kick away with a dive to his left. And so our skins were saved yet again!

There were several other chances for the Hustlerz to come back in the game, but it was clear it wasn't to be as lady lucked shined on us. The crossbar and in a another instance Azelin's outstretched palms denying them that opportunity.

Khai and Saharin in the meanwhile were playing some fantastic football upfront when F19 weren't on the ball. With Amir S pulling the strings in the middle, the three combined well to set us up in some good opportunities but the lack of finishing again let us down when it mattered.

The Hustlerz continued to throw men forward and it really helped opened the game ahead of us, as each time we broke another one of their forays upfront, it gave us space to counter from the flanks.

And so it was, that from a counter attack, the ball going from Hammry and then in circles between Khai and Saharin on the left, his tidy pasing set up Amir S on the right, who floated one in to the box and it was the head of Haidi met the ball with force. The unthinkable happened and we were 4 - 2 up!

The whistle for full time went shortly after and timely was it too as our tired legs had really taken a beating. I won't expect that much charity in our next head-to-head with the Hustlerz, the next time being our DRM league game with more than just pride at stake.

HSBC salvages a draw

This was our first real away game this year having not played out of BSRC in awhile, and boy did it feel weird playing next to a highway!

It'd been raining all day, and the weather certainly wasn't going to cut us any slack as it continued to pour down through the game. The pitch looked heavy from the start, and as play went on it really turned into a mudpit which made for extra gritty football.

The team pretty much selected itself as we enforced the 'first come first play' rule. The only problem being that we ended up with a starting 11 that had an abundance of midfielders and no real defenders apart from Majdi and the Gaffa.

That called for a change from our usual strategy as we adopted a more riskier 3-5-2 formation, which in hindsight paid off as we were able to make full use of our numbers in the middle of the park where it mattered, and the huge pools of water on the pitch as that extra defender!

We started the game confidently, really using the full width of the pitch with some good short play, making use of that extra person in midfield. Sulhi having just been promoted to the senior team ranks, in particular was extra keen to prove himself and he would cause all sorts of headaches for the HSBC defense with his trickery and pace.

The formation also meant that we were able to play wide, away from the surface water in the middle of the park and that proved to be crucial as Amir S on the left and Pg Sham on the right took full advantage of the space on the flanks with some pin-point crosses flying in from all sorts of places.

It was the kind of game that really suited our own version of the twin towers as Haidi and Fadil easily won the headers, and we really should've scored more. Fadil missing the inside of the post by just inches when his theatrical flying header met a cross from Amir S on the left.

It was no surprise that we drew first blood, when Fadil was put through from a long ball, coming off the feet of Sulhi, and when in those kind of one on ones, Fadil really doesn't miss much.

There were several more chances to double the lead in the remainder of the half, but the soggy field and heavy ball really didn't help as we struggled to keep our passing game going, whilst HSBC really dug in and came back at us with some determination.

They too were guilty of missing some sitters, breaking free on the counter attack leaving us short at the back, but they failed to get any of their shots on target when they really should've scored much to Yusra's relief. He really didn't have to make too many saves and had solid hands when called on.

We fielded a completely new team in the second half and things looked good for us as HSBC didn't really have any fresh legs to throw on.

The midfield combination of the two Khai's and Arch in the middle would probably have done alot more damage had the weather been kind to us, but playing on the heavy waterlogged pitch meant that they weren't able to play their fancy-dan ways somewhat dissapointingly.

The stand out performer of the half definitely was Amir D on the left. He made plenty of space for himself on the flank running circles round their right-back, and he too was unlucky when his 20 yard screamer, which from the benches really looked like it was going to put us up 2 nil, only managed to canon off the cross-bar.

Meanwhile in defense, Nazrul and Rahimin were on top of their game, really tidying up all the loose ends as HSBC went in search of their equaliser.

It was perseverance in the end that paid off, as HSBC finally did manage to break free of the two centre backs with a clever one-two and Yusra wasn't able to put his gloves behind a shot that ended up in his top left corner from inside the box.

Obviously a draw was less than what we had deserved having dominated the game throughout, but we simply paid the price for not being able to seal the deal in the business end of things upfront. A rematch awaits!

A Brave Fight By The Boys in White

The team is now slowly beginning to feel the loss of not having the young padawans around as you would have to admit that they add plenty of dimension to the squad not just in terms of numbers, but also pace and enthusiasm. So the ball rolls we'll just have to wait till August till the UK students turn up.

BLNG has always been a tough game for us, their competitive league experience puts them at least a notch above our standards and our players have always been wary about playing any fixture involving our neighbouring gas company.

The pre-game warm up involved plenty of 'roofball' inspired stuff, flicks, somersaults, mid-air volleys, keepy-uppys. All done whilst sitting on our asses next to the netball pitch waiting for the jerseys and drinks to arrive!

Yesterday though we were riding high on confidence, having been playing well over the past few weeks. Though we did start with no established goalie to stand in between the posts and with Yusra MIA and Yusriman having to attend to work. So it was G Khai who volunteered having done so well in the last game with a clean sheet half.

The first half was a scrappy affair, BLNG had most of the possession but couldn't convert any of that into goals for the most part. Mostly it was our stand in goalie saving our necks, but it also had to do with wasteful shots that couldn't find their target.

Stand out performance in the first half though was Arch in his usual roving free role. He was simply everywhere, in midfield where he started the game, then in defense both on the left and the right and back on the wings.

Haidi struggled somewhat with the pace of Aziz who was playing upfront for BLNG, and so he adopted the natural big boy strategy in such difficult situations, maximise your weight advantage, man-mark and then making sure by all means he doesnt turn you for the dead. That didn't stop Aziz from breaking free at one point leaving him with a 1-1 with G Khai. The ensuing hardhouse dive and tackle would've knocked the socks out of the BLNG front man, if not for his last ditch instinct to back off.

BLNG did however managed to put one through, much to the disappointment of our defensive lynchpin Hailmey who uptill then was also equal to what they could throw at him. So it was 1 nil to BLNG.

We didn't dissapoint though with our response and almost immediately we launched forward for a goal, and were rewardedwhen Amir D was judged to have been fouled in the box. Fadil stood up to take the penalty which he dispatched with ease.

The half ended with a draw and there was still all to play for in the second.

The second saw some changes, Amir S coming on hoping to break his scoring duck for the season but also adding abit of a threat upfront and 'muay-thai wannabe' Renny and 'hardcore' Rahimin slotting in to the centre back role.

BLNG though were a different team altogether in the second half. Their main playmaker Radzi coming on after sitting out the 1st half and boy did he make a difference.

He immediately changed the dynamics of the game by running circles around almost our entired central midfield and defence before slotting home to put them ahead once again.

The third came from a free kick, just off the box on the left. His low angled shot beat the wall and the keeper with ease.It was almost too easy for him.

But as he tired with the half progressing and his impact on the team's play lessened, we mustered a comeback the old-fashioned way, with grit and graft. Hard tackling by both centre backs gave them less and less upfront, whilst Pg Shamhary and Danan battled hard in the middle of the park to retain posssession. The more of the ball we saw, the more adventerous we got.

We eventually won another penalty when again Amir D was felled in the box. Fadil stood up for his second and he wasn'tgoing to miss.

Our third came from a determined run by Amir D. Julberg won the ball in the centre of the park, and his lay-off put Pg Sham in space on the right flank. At this point, Amir D on the left flank started a lung bursting run into the box almost frantically shouting for the ball, and Pg Sham didn't dissapoint with the quality of his cross which initially found Fadil but was laid down into Amir D's path and he easily tapped that into the back of the net.

So it was all square once more and when we should've dug deep to defend the draw, we drove forward in search of the winner. And that was to be our downfall as a quick counter from BLNG exposed our defenders and their numerical advantage in the play 3 against 2 meant that it was always going to be easy for them. A cheeky chip over Renny and G Khai gave them the winner.

A well deserved win finally for DRM!

There was a mix of nerves and apprehension when the name of our opponents for this week's friendly was announced. NBT FC being one of the more established league clubs in Brunei would surely make mince meat out of us, like 'knife through butter' i heard one player comment.

So it was to everyone's relief that the team that turned up at BSRC on Monday wasn't the better known league team, but the KB branch team.

Rahim much like Adebayor for Arsenal has started off the year with a bang, although slow to start, he scored 2 goals in the last game against HRS and was keen to show that he deserves his starting slot upfront, and he didn't dissapoint.

Paired up with drilling hitman Fadil upfront, the two threatened the NBT goal right from the start. But this time it was Fadil who put on the style, and he was keen on proving a point after being played in defense for a number of games now. Rahim turned provider on almost both occassions, but Dilah DPMM somehow also got into the action to set up Fadil's second goal, after some amazing footwork and pace from Rahim to put them both in a scoring position.

Worth mentioning also is the fact that we managed a clean sheet in the 1st half. The 2pt incentive for a half time clean sheet surely has made its impact on our game, as we seem to be more cautious about letting the soft goals in.

We didn't have near as many subs this time round, the fact that our Ozzie padawans have all ended their summer attachment surely will cause us to take a big hit in match attendance and fresh legs to throw at our opponents in the 2nd half. But the turn up was still good, and stand-in manager for the day, Azelin did a great job with the substitution ensuring everyone had their fair share of 'pitch time'.

NBT faired better in the second half, throwing on their young kids, who i have to admit created all sorts of headaches for us. Just how you are supposed to man-mark 15 year old kids on steroids is a puzzle to me. Flash a hint of body contact and the ref is all too willing to oblige with a whistle and a card, give him too much space and he runs circles around your age-ing legs.

In that sense, we did well to limit the second half damage to two goals. Our two goal cushion gone, we threw on 'playa' of the month who was hungry to prove his worth after some embarrassing blunders in recent 'fun' games.

He showed just why he is the main man at the moment, when an Amir S long ball from the middle of the park reached his massive frame, and he brushed off the defending centre-back with ease to toe poke the ball into the bottom left corner of goal for our third and decisive goal.

NBT still had plenty to say, and if it weren't for a last ditch all out tacke from nowhere by Alex in defense the game probably would have ended a 3 goal draw.

Still we had time for another moment in the match, an inswinging corner from Julberg was met powerfully by Saiful Bulan who also took a defender with him at the same time. His goal bound header cleared off the line by a reliefed looking NBT kid.

So 3 - 2 the game ended. Our first win of the 2008 season and it was truly deserved after some heart-breaking matches in the past few weeks where we simply never found the finishing touch to kill of our games.

DRM leaves it to late!!

Sometimes in football it's the unexpected things that give you pleasure, and big comebacks are definitely at the top of most lists. Yesterday's performance was one such occasion. We were 4 - 1 down to the dead at one point in the first half, and when most would have written us off as long gone, we somehow amassed the energy and the spirit to claw back, and in the end could have so easily wrapped the game up if not for the referee's whistle. Obviously, having enough players to field two teams might have had something to do with the end result, but that's what DRM has come to stand for these days. We have quality in abundance but more importantly we also have quality in quantity, and that's been a major factor going for us for as long as we are able to keep the egos in check and our balls in our pants.

I wouldn't say we played badly in the first half either, in fact we probably played the better more organized football. The one thing that the office move boy's had going for them was pace and youth, and that will always count for something.

We drew first blood when a back-pass gone wrong somehow ended up with Rahim's feet, and he coolly slotted the ball past the HRS keeper for one nil.

The boy's responded quickly though, and a mistake by Alex in centre-back put through their speedy forward who raced past Fadil and Saharin in goal, and it was back to all square.

Then the unthinkable happened. Azelin, DRM's newly appointed captain, lunged for a headed clearance on the left flank and somehow landed akwardly. His ankle got caught in the heavy waterlogged BSRC pitch and that was to be his last short-lived contribution to the game. It was also at this point that i also had to leave the game to send the captain to the doctors!

I was told that Rahim managed to score a second goal through a Dilah DPPM assist. However, it turns out HRS managed to also score 3 more goals before the half time whistle. 4 - 2 was how the half ended and we were in need of a miracle.

Shuttling back and forth between the BSRC pitch and tending to an injured player at the Panaga Health Centre is no mean feat, and i managed to get back just in time for the 2nd half kick-off. As has become DRM tradition, wholesale changes were made in the second half. Aizul and Amir S came on for Julberg and Rahim, whilst we also gambled by throwing the Padawans into the deep end, with Asqa, Hafiz and Victor injecting some guile and pace into the team. Hadi was the victim of all this though, continuing his bench-warming duties much to his dissapointment.

G Khai volunteered for goalkeeping duties in the second half and to be fair HRS Office Move hardly troubled us in the second half. But when it did count, he was there with two magical saves to keep us in the game. Defensively we were very solid, Vince keeping a tight shift at the back and Nazrul once he was on, proving what an asset he is to DRM with his powerful tackles and lunging runs, and that was to prove the difference between both halves.

Our breakthrough finally came when Amir D broke free on the left with one of his trademark jink and run past their fullback, and his low sweeping cross was met by young padawan, Hafiz. His first touch was good, and his second even better as it took him past the HRS defense and through on goal. He wasn't really going to miss from there as his form this season has been nothing short of inspiring, having already scored 2 goal in the past 3 games.

We rallied from that goal, and it turned out to be a tactical masterstroke taking off the ineffectual Amir S who had a surprising off-day for the more direct Indonesian import, Ari Subekti as well as the ever hungry goal-maching, Hadi and that proved to be the turning point as they were both involved in several direct attacks on the HRS goal. It was Ari who was eventually fouled in the HRS penalty box.

Fakhrul sensing his opportunity to kick off his goal count this season, fought for the ball and he was confident. Unfortunately though it wasn't to be as he sliced the penalty well wide right of goal and you could hear the groans and despair from the DRM bench. There it was presented to us on a platter and we couldn't finish it off.

Still we pushed forward and came close to scoring on several occassions until the equaliser finally came. Asqa put through Hadi free on the right wing, and he put a low blinding cross in which fooled the HRS last man, and found the feet of Yamin. Yamin panicking in front of goal did well to lay it on to Amir D who was waiting to pounce from just off the penalty box, and there was only going to be one outcome once he latched on free on goal. The ball drilled low and hard into the bottom right corner beating the outstretched keeper leaving him no chance.

It was four all to DRM and we were back in the game! Sadly the ref blew for full time shortly after and dashed our hopes for a complete comeback. It was still as good a game as any, and we showed that we had the fight to compete.

Rise of the Padawans Scuppered!

Yesterday’s match pitted the Old boys against our Padawan counterparts from Sydney. To make things more interesting (and to actually field a team), the Padawan’s line-up was bolstered by the Oz contingent of the DRM regulars, namely G Khai, Ady, Julberg, Sulhi and yours truly. As per usual for derby encounters, the Old boys managed to field enough players for two teams, with spirited discussions on the makeup of the starting eleven. The Padawans had just two subs initially, and that would be a factor later on in the match. That aside, the Old boys were aiming to show who were the big boys on the block, and the Padawans were keen to showcase their talent with a few of us older blokes hoping to remind the regulars exactly what they missed trading us away.

Early in the first half saw the Padawan’s jump out of the blocks (literally), dominating possession and demonstrating their abundance of pace. The Old boys constantly found themselves chasing shadows and they struggled to keep up with their younger opponents, showing just how old those legs really were. Sadly, this advantage was nullified by some astute defending from DRM’s star import, Javier, and lots of offside calls, reminding us somewhat of the over eagerness of youth.

The Old boys did manage to regain some possession midway through the half and looked dangerous, with the midfield delivering some telling passes. However, the Old boys’ forwards themselves showed similar over eagerness, straying offside on many occasions. Some suggestion perhaps they were reminiscing their early days as fresh faced youngsters. Good defence on both sides kept the scores even, with a noteworthy performance from the central back Majdi, which will surely brighten DRM gaffa’s heart as he searches for much needed depth to the regular backline.

The first goal though came against the run of play. After toiling for much of the first half, veteran striker Haidi managed to beat the offside trap (a feat in itself) and blast past keeper Yazid. This served as a wake up call for the Padawan’s as they redoubled their efforts to search for a goal. The equalizer looked on when Padawan Hafiz managed to beat the Old boy’s offside trap and Sulhi rushed to support, creating a 2 on 1 chance against the keeper for an almost near certain goal. However, the Old boys were rescued by a dubious offside decision when Hafiz squared to Sulhi with both still in front of the keeper. This author can foresee renewed calls for video umpiring as a result of this decision, though it wouldn’t have been needed to see how questionable the call was. Padawan’s kept the pressure on, and a fantastic cross was met with a powerful header from substitute Fazrul, which was well saved by Yusriman. The final chance came when right back Ivan, showing some surprising skill on the ball, managed to dribble past the defence and create a one on one chance with the keeper. Sadly, the end result was a shot blasted high and wide, further cementing his position as a defensive player. This ended the first half at 1-0, a somewhat flattering score line to the Old boys.

The second half came with a new eleven for the Old boys (with a newfound healthy respect for their opponents). The fresh legs and lack of Padawan subs soon told as the Old boys piled on attack after attack with Khai, the two Amirs and Ari demonstrating to the young Padawans that they still had much to learn. Hadini, in particular, found himself unmarked on several occasions behind the defense and quickly put on another two goals for the Old boys after.

The score line could have been much worse if not for some excellent keeping from keeper Yazid (preventing Hadini’s hat trick) and some rather curious attempts on goal by the Old boys’ forwards. The miss of the match had to come from one of the senior forwards from the Old boys (who shall remain unnamed) who, after managing to round the keeper with the goal at his mercy, inexplicably shot wide of the near post. This served to galvanise the Padawans, exposing the Old boys weakness in defence against set plays. The first goal was a delightful corner from Asqa that was headed in by Fadli, who had come up from defence to aid in attack. The next was a fiercely taken free kick from veteran G Khai that just managed to dip to below the cross bar. The Padawans tried to surge forward in numbers in the hope to grabbing an unlikely equalizer. However, the Old boys managed to hold on to their composure (and pride) and the score line ended 3-2. A great showing by the Padawans, earning some respect from their older counterparts. Added mention has to be made of some excellent performances from the two central backs of Javier and Majdi, and the contributions made by the veteran contingent of the Padawan team.

Dear Colleagues

It's been a satisfactory year for DRM Bula, Golf, Photography & Scooter. We continued to improve our performance on many fronts. It's clear that our organization is fighting to regain its rightful place in the country's top ranks, helping to secure our reputation as a top class activity-for-fun organization. Thank you for contributing your personal energy to that effort!

To start with safety, we launched Participation Zero. This means that everyone who turns up for DRM activities must not shy away and must participate and enjoy. I have received good feedback on this initiative so far. I count on all of us to make it a success.

Many of the positive signs at DRM have been on the upswing for several years now. One that I'm particularly glad to see is a steady improvement in attendance in both football matches and golf tournaments. Our internal research shows that you appreciate the consistency of our strategy, "more people, more fund contributions". You also like our focus on having fun, making sure everyone pays and improving our skills. That's encouraging and I want us to stick with it and maintain our focus on these things.

Looking back, 2007 had some clear highlights. One was the DRM Generation X v Y game . Gen Y is now the undisputed winner, while X will need some time to recover from the aching bones and muscle strain. The showdown has been closely fought, and X will look to improve in time for the next match. I'm convinced it will one day be a showcase match on a global scale and one we can be proud of.

Other highlights included the recent DRM Golf 'Battle of the Bridges', which was played over two days at RBA Golf Club & the Augusta of Borneo, Royal Brunei Golf & Country Club in Jerudong. Many bets were made and hundreds of dollars were at stake as top class golf was played over the two days.

And you can't forget that we celebrated our own 15 th anniversary this year . I hope to see us go to 100!

There were a few setbacks, of course. In the first quarter, Adi Tabang shocked the skins out of most of us with that disgusting video which shall never be played again. That was a disappointment because we had hoped to eradicate this gay crap from DRM . But we will keep trying. We will continue to put the reputation of our people first.

While it's certainly good to celebrate our achievements, much work must still be done. I prefer to look at our progress as a marathon that we run together (without holding hands ofcourse ...). It is a long way, but I'm convinced that with teamwork we can get there.

If we are to reclaim our place among the top organizations in the country, we must aim high and take deliberate steps to get there. Here is my vision: by 2015 we should be able to function independently as a profitable organization able to secure long term lucrative contracts with the key major departments in BSP. I expect aiming for that goal will spark creativity and new ideas about how we can eventually take over the oil & gas industry. As we say in our advertising: Difficult yes. Impossible no.

I hope you will have time over the holidays to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. You've earned a breather. Then come back in the new year rejuvenated and ready to tackle the challenge of moving our organization to top quartile -- where it belongs.

Tonight's Group D round of matches, pitted the 'Bee' team against the UBD 1st team, Adinin Group, Energy & Fiva Nova. With three wins and the one loss against UBD, BSRC B took 2nd spot in the group which puts us through to Tuesday morning's knock-out draw. We were not really tested in the first game against Energy with an easy 4 nil win. But that was followed by two games against Adinin & Fiva Nova, where through sheer doggedness we managed to scrap wins after trailing from a goal down. El Kapitan G Khai put in two man of the match performances in both games with Stevie G-esque goals putting us back in contention both times. Although we lost to UBD by a scoreline that shan't be mentioned, overall the team played a good combination of attacking football followed by some street tough defending, and with Jame & wunderkid Asqa yet to join the squad, good things bode for the 'Bee' team in their adventure.

Rijal saves DRM blushes once more

DRM football has finally shaken off it's Hari Raya hangover with a good win last week against CP-7, and that momentum looked to continue this week as the team asserted itself right from the whistle with the attacking style football that the players have become accustomed to. The first half squad was a good mix of X and Y players, with a couple of new faces, and this definitely proved to be a winning combination: within 10 minutes of the kick-off, quick and neat exchanges in midfield found Fakhrul at the left corner of the penalty box and you know he had only one thing on his mind when he teed up the ball. The ball flew across the face of the goal and into the bottom corner and it was 1-0 to DRM!

The Shell-shocked Raptors changed their strategy instantly, pushing their defenders high up the pitch to play the offside trap. This only freed up space for super striker Haidi to run into, and the service was indeed first class with passes and through balls spraying in from Fadil, who was happy to pick up the ball out wide, Hailmey who was operating in unfamiliar territory on the right, and Hammry who sat in front of the back four. DRM's biggest striker had several one-on-one chances with the keeper, but he must have forgotten to worship at the temple of the Football Gods as time and again, his strikes on goal somehow skewed marginally wide. It wasn't long though, before the lead was extended to two. Haidi did well to hold up the ball and makeshift left-back for the day Rahimin, on a rare foray up the pitch, collected a quick pass from him and found an unmarked Hailmey in space right outside the 'D'. Hailmey wasted no time and let fly a cheeky chip that slipped through the goalie's hands and went in. DRM 2, Raptors 0.

At the opposite end, the DRM back-line was well marshalled by Alex and newcomer Shah, and they showed why they are able replacements for the likes of legendary MIA veterans Sufian Lampai and Adi Tabang, soaking up everything and anything thrown at them. Regular centre-back and DRM Gaffa Renny Van Pusie was nowhere to be found, and sources revealed later that he was kidnapped by Crew ‘B’ and was being held ransom at the CP-7 platform. Goalie Yusra produced one of his best performances ever between the uprights in the first half, making several good saves and one right out of the pages of Peter Schmeichel’s goalkeeping books when he slid and literally plucked the ball from the feet of a charging striker.

Finding themselves two-nil up, DRM made the mistake of taking their foot of the gas, and the young Raptors finally breached the DRM defence with a well taken goal. A through pass caught all four defenders flat-footed at the halfway line, and a midfielder duly collected the ball and calmly put it in the top corner beyond the reach of a full-stretched Yusra.That proved to only be a minor set-back however, as soon after the restart Azelin won a free-kick at the same spot where Fakhrul scored from earlier. The Raptors must have felt a sense of deja vu when Fakhrul stood across the ball and let loose another screamer right into the bottom right hand-corner, regaining the two-goal advantage for DRM as quickly as they had lost it.

In typical DRM fashion, the second half saw a wholesale change to accommodate DRM's ever-growing squad, with Saiful Bulan and Nazrul slotting into defence, Jame in midfield, and Rijal up front. It was an entirely a different affair though, as the opposition was intent on getting something from the match, and made wave after wave of attempts on the DRM goal.

Lady Luck finally deserted DRM for the Raptors when their last man charged his way up the field and, with lots of time and space, let fly an effort from all of 30 yards that Yusra could only push under the cross bar and into the back of the net. Sensing a comeback, they picked up the pace, and only last ditch tackles by Saiful Bulan, Azelin and Shah managed to keep the scoreline 3-2 to DRM. Fakhrul nearly got his hat-trick when his effort from another spot kick was turned outside the post as it rapidly homed in on the bottom corner.

The heavy, waterlogged pitch didn't make things easier for DRM, and with everyone's stamina quickly waning, the floodgates finally opened and DRM subsequently conceded a 3rd and 4th goal in quick succession. It wasn't all one-way traffic though, as DRM founding father Aizul (coincidentally a new father as well!) worked hard and combined well with Rijal to keep the Raptors 'keeper busy in search of that ever elusive first goal of 2007. DRM Kapitan Amir S and Indonesian import Ari came in late in the game to inject some well-needed attacking venom and creativity, but the stubborn Raptor defence gave new meaning to the phrase 'desperate defending' to keep their hard-earned, come-from-behind lead. Amir S had a couple of shots on goal, but he must have left his shooting boots at home as he too failed to convert his chances and add to his goals tally, unlike the little birdie who scored on his knee from ten yards up!

With the sun setting, Rijal threw DRM a lifeline as he racked up his second goal in as many games when he scored an empathic equalizer in the dying minutes, chesting down a pass from Ady and calmly slotting the ball home to start DRM on a new run of unbeaten games.

It's that time of the year again! A whole year's worth of toil and hard work finally behind us, i'm also hoping all our GPA's have been signed off (in blood hopefully!). What better excuse to party! :)

A few ideas have been bandied around recently but we really need to come up with something concrete before 31st December 2007! I have also managed to amass a small fortune which hopefully should be enough to cover most expenses.

A win finally!!!!

DRM managed a well deserved win yesterday at BSRC against determined opponents CP-7, a result that ends their win-less streak which stretches back past the last few games before Ramadhan.

We had new signing Jai play our first game for us in centre midfield and he showed glimpses of the talent that he will bring to DRM with his passing and long range shots! Jame, Arch and Nazrul who have not featured in the line-up for too long also made their appearances yesterday on the muddy BSRC pitch. It was definitely a strong DRM squad on show yesterday as both 1st and 2nd half teams had a right balance of players going forward as well as in defense.

Rahimin commented on the emerging DRM style of play when he said, "It seems like we're a team that plays very high up the pitch with our strikers setting up stall close to the opposite goal, and our defense sitting on the half-way line most times. We get hit far too many times on the counter-attack! Looking back at all our recent games, we've been by far the more dominant team but have always leaked goals at the back whilst on the counter.."

And from what i saw yesterday was no different! Long may it stay that way!

Our first goal came from a well worked ball on the right side (the muddier side) when our South American import, Javier put through Arch in the penalty box. Arch who had been a threat all day, had nothing in mind but trashing the ball into the back of the net, and we we're up one nil.

On the other end, Alex saved our skins with a kamikaze tackle which in any other pitch condition would probably have earned him a red card. It turned out as clean as a white sheet in anycase and allowed us the benefit of the one goal cushion for abit more.

Azelin had to come off injured after his foot got caught in heavy ground, and we lost a little bit of bite when he left the pitch. CP-7 subsequently managed to pull one back before half time. Another performance worth mentioning, was Haidi up in front where he's most comfortable. The big guy had several headed chances to score, and also used his phsyique to hold the ball up well, using the pacy players around him to good advantage.

The second half saw the new generation of DRM players take the field, and they were determind to put on a show for those on the sidelines. Khairulizan wow-ed us with his tricks and turns, and he worked well in the middle with Jame and Jai, providing plenty for the guys up-front. We played a very attack minded 3-5-2 and the 2nd half back three of Nazrul, Rahimin and Fakhrul defended extremely well in the situations they were put in.

Rijal's goal came from the left when Khairulizan put Fadil free on the left, his first shot was saved by the keeper but bounced right back to his feet. This time round he put in a weighted ball into the box which Rijal muscled his way to and we were up by a goal!

DRM FC 1 - HSE BOMBA 3 (Dedy)

This was our first game after a very lengthy mid-season puasa & raya break, and it was pretty obvious to see all through the DRM squad (i'm referring to myself more than anyone else here!). After 2 solid weeks of intensive pigging out, it was about time to get off our gluteus maximus and put in some hard work and sweat.

And hey, it was also our new jersey debut!

We started the game with a mostly X line-up, and in hindsight the long lay-off probably had more of an impact on the elders than most. The Bomba boys had most of the possession but never got a proper grip on the game in the opening half. Aziz playing on the right wing was a thorn with his runs, and it obviously helped to have big brother Aizul around to pull the strings. G Khai had a few chances to test the keeper with his long range shots, and had he been presented with a shot closer to the penalty box, i don't think he would have wasted it. As such, the closest we got to a goal was from a well built up string of passes between Haidi and Julberg on the left. Centre-back Renny ran on to a neat Julberg pass in the penalty area, but he shot wide reminding everyone again why he plays in defense and not upfront.

Hammry and Javier were immense at the back as they trumped most of what the Bomba boys could throw at us. Though they did eventually manage to break through when a long ball from midfield went over our backs, which Azelin (traitor!) ran onto and he was clinical with his finishing taking it near post past an onrushing Fakhrul in goal.

Bomba got a second closer to half-time when again a this time offside Azelin (he should be shot in the head!) broke through our line and latched onto a diagonal ball from their left flank. He proved clinical in his finishing, and DRM ended the half 2 nil down and maybe a bit unlucky to be in that position.

The second half start was delayed somewhat after the alarm bells suspiciously went off at the multi-purpose hall, and the Bomba boys were called in to their line of duty. That proved to be a false alarm and the game went on. We had fresh legs come on in the second half and with more pace at our disposal we were able to give the guys in blue a proper run for their money.

Almost from the kick-off, Fakhrul was presented with a sitter in front of goal. Ady Fadli's vision picked out Fakhrul in between the two centre-backs with a deft lob, but Fakhrul sliced wide as his first touch failed him. (not the footballer he once now that he's hitched!) Our goal finally came when a well worked ball from defense found Dedy on the far right, and he shot at goal almost in hope rather than anything, but lady luck was on his side and his high ball floated over the Bomba keeper into the far top corner. We were back in the game, and we were determined to get that equaliser.

You could see the determination, when we won a free-kick close to the 6-yard box, and both Fakhrul and Ady squabbled over who should take the kick. Ady grabbed the ball away and placed, Fakhrul thought the better (and quicker), immediately taking the shot and he did well to test the keeper but could not find the back of the net.

Ari almost got us that second goal close to the end when Rijal ran onto a Khai cross which the Bomba keeper failed to clear, but his shot went inches wide of the post from close range after he was pressured by two onrushing big guys. It was anybody's game to take at that point. However, Bomba eventually got the 3rd goal minutes to the end. The game ended 3-1, but it really was a close game, the results flattering our opponents.

We hadn't played a night game in a while, and were we in for a hard night yesterday under the BSRC floodlights. We were lucky to leave with a respectable score-line as it easily could've been a moonlight massacre.

The DRM team started of brightly however and infact we started off with the lead after about 20 minutes when Johnny was fouled 30 yards from goal. Amir D who has scored on both games since returning for a long paternity lay-off duly dispatched that free kick into the bottom left corner.

DRM enjoyed the lead for for awhile as it seemed that Adi Tabang (who was even subject to a birthday song whilst playing!) and Rahimin were able to hold at bay the quick and pacy LL FC wingers and attack.

The visitors eventually managed to drag themselves back into game towards the end of the half after substitute left back Ivan & Fakhrul were involved in what seemed to the referee to be a tussle with the LL FC striker. Much to the protests of the DRM team, the referee awarded the penalty and the game was back at all square. They scored an eventual second goal before half time and we went into the break down by one goal.

The second half was a slightly different affair as LL FC's passing game really took most of us out of the game. They were dominant on ball possession and we ended up having to chase hard most of the time. Their keeper even had the cheek to constantly launch his own attacks and even ended up scoring after beating the offside trap!!! Our only goal of the second half came when Amir S managed to jink his way past the left back and his finish reminded me of the Torres goal in the Liverpool - Chelsea game last weekend!

DRM came out tops in last night's Friendly Futsal Tournament organised by Apok & gang from IM. It was a four team friendly, but featured quality opponents with the likes of SEN & IM.

The DRM team played well throughout, only conceding 2 goals in the first two matches. We unexpectedly beat the SEN team 4 - 1 in the 1st game and that really sent our confidence levels soaring through the roof with that first win under the belt. The second match against ISM was a little less tough and Faizan & Ari coming on in the second half added several to the game.

It was really the last game against IM that would determine the outcome of the tournament. Because of the way the other games had gone, we were already virtually assured of top spot, unless IM beat us by 6 goals or more. The boys played well against the more experienced IM team, the last time we played we lost 1-0. We kept the score to a very respectable 4 - 3 and very nearly snatched a draw in the last minute.

Thank you also to Hailmey & Apok for putting together an excitement packed night and we will definitely look forward to another night like this before Puasa.

Just wanted to also mention that all 3 DRM teams showed excellent team spirit and sportsmanship. We ran hard and we played fair. All the 3 invitational teams had only good things to say at the end about DRM football and we should be proud of that. Hope everyone had fun.

DRM v PPA Match Summary

We struggled to field a proper first 11 for the second straight game and the difference between the first half rojak team that we field, and the second half DRM proper is telling. We've conceded 5 1st half goals in 2 games, whilst we've only conceded 2 in 2 games in the last half. This really needs to be worked on, and it will require all of DRM to stand up and to commit to matches, AND turn up on time. I will put my hands up and admit to be guilty as charged for the PPA game, but i will also commit to coming on time for games in the future. Lets see you stand up and make the same!

Rant over! :p

The standard of the games in this weather hasn't been all that either, the BSRC pitch is turning into a buffalo pit very quickly and i don't know whether that's good or bad for us just yet. It has made for some very comical plays and the first half was no exception. We weren't able to take advantage of the fact that we defended the crappy end of the pitch in the 1st half, and PPA somehow were able to exploit our defending through all the mud and slop. They did have fast young strikers who were ball hungry however, and i suppose that would make a huge difference! The only goal of the 1st half came when G Khai latched onto a long ball from a Fadil clearance in defence and he rounded the keeper to lift the glum from our game somewhat.

We were a much more different team in the second half, fielding a proper DRM 11 and with the benefit of a change of legs, with the 3 students coming on in place of Rahim, Julberg and Fadil. It also helped that Hailmey now had gloves to properly carry out his goal-keeping duties, even if it meant having to wear two left-hand gloves (?!?). We looked alot more composed on the ball, and having the young ones willing to run in the game changed the dynamics somewhat, as we were able to hold on to possession alot more readily with passing options available around. The second half goal was a result of a goal mouth scramble, when Rijal's run into the box was met by G Khai whose first attempt was blocked by an onrushing centre-back, deflecting the ball to Zainal's feet and he was clinical with his finish from just outside the box. Rijal and G Khai had other opportunities to eat further into PPA's lead but were denied only by some determined goal keeping from between the PPA sticks. That didn't mean that we didn't have any scares at the back however, with Matiin's goal line sliding save preventing DRM for any further blushes late in the game, when PPA threw in a final assault on the scoreline. They eventually managed to score direct from a free-kick in the last minute of the game, the ball showing more curves than you'd find on both J-Lo and Beyonce! It was a more respectable second half, and it gives us the hope that if we are able to field a proper team, maybe next game the results will go our way. Only one way to find out really....

What a Game!

The battle of the generations began not on the pitch but in the hallways of Head Office, the smoking corners, the canteen and on the golf course. This was always going to be about men who had been there before, won the wars, and have taken their rightful place in the football club and the pretenders, the new kids on the block, who feel that it is time now for their place in history and for them to be writing the chapters and calling the shots.

This was always going to be not just about a football match, and goals scored, there was more to it than just that. If only life were that simple! This was about bragging rights and the privilege of walking the halls with your head up high and a smirk on your face. And what a game it turned out to be!

The Gen X-er's signalled their intent, by not only turning up en-masse before kick-off, they had specifically chosen their battle-colours and were driven to prove that it was going to be a red massacre. The Gen Y-er's took abit more of a laid back approach, turning up in trickles and even then not looking like they were in any rush to get anywhere, typical of the traits you would come to associate with the Digital Generation.

All the friendly banter and jokes were dropped though, the moment the referee signalled for the kick-off. As in all great football matches, it was blue versus red, men verus boys, kings versus the pretenders. And you could sense the heightened tension building up around the BSRC grounds. This was not going to be friendly at all.

The X-er's kicked us off, and the action immediately got underway. They had a strong midfield presence with anchorman Samsul pulling the strings in the middle of the park ably assisted by some more creative players around him, and they held on to the ball for what seemed like hours. They made the boys run for their lives and didn't give away anything. Upfront Pachie & Rahim seemed hungry for space and really exploited the Y's defensive naivety with quick passing, and that understanding you can only develop after playing with each other for awhile. Infact, it had always looked like X would draw first blood.

They had several missed opportunities in the early minutes, though none really troubling the Y keeper who was a stand in last minute replacement. This was perhaps a quick sneak peek at what was to come. Complete domination of possession but an inability to finish off the goods when it mattered.

The Y's however looked dangerous on the counter attack and were ready at an instant to pounce on any loose balls with vigour and pace that only come with youth. We had speedy boys upfront, and they were keen to run the X defense ragged. This really added to the pace at which the game was played in the first half. Very quick passing and movement, and really no chance for both sides to stop and take a breather.

An so the first goal of the game came, after some good hustling from Khairulizan and Jame in the middle of the park, which led to a quick one-two passing counter attack. Zai who had so far been industrious with his running, put in the perfect weighted pass from centre for lanky striker Mizi to run on to, and he wasn't going to miss from another one-two with keeper Fakhrul, after having several chances previously to put the boys in the lead. His carefully slotted shot went under the keeper and into the back of the net! It was a dream start for the young pretenders, and who better to open the scoring than one of the youngest on the pitch.

So it went till the end of the first half. Tackles flew in from all over the place, and the referee was definitely kept busy throughout the opening 45 minutes.

The second half looked more promising for the X-er's as they were now attacking the better half of the pitch, after the torrent downpour from the night's previously. The team's line-up had changed considerably over the period of the game, and it was an opportunity not to be missed to throw on all the new legs who had been patiently waiting on the benches for a piece of the action.

There was more defensive stability in the X defense this time round, with the introduction of Hailmey Alonso, Saiful Bulan and Hammry - big guys who would be able to boss the smaller boys with their body size and weight.

Hazman and Aizul were a combination from days past upfront for X, and they were looking like they had not stopped playing together at all. If it weren't for some good defending from Y captain of the day, Azlan, there definitely would've been some goals added to the scoreline.

So it stayed at one nil, until Danan popped up out of nowhere and his quick one two with Hammry broke the offside trap and caught both Azlan and Renny flat footed, and his was a simple toe poke home, and suddenly X felt that this was theirs for the taking.

Aizul in particular had a chance to latch on to a cross, after Renny had missed the defensive clearance altogether, but could only watch his glancing header go just wide off the upright frustratingly.

Khairulizan however put in an outstanding performance in midfield, orchestrating Y's plays with quick turns and fancy footwork and he was able to hold together the guys for huge periods where there was some unrelentless pressure on goal from the old boys. The last ten minutes where it went right down to the wire was as tense as any finals could be. The guys on the bench cheering their guys on the pitch on, and it really looked like it could be anybody's game as the minutes wore out. Both sides had plenty of controversy, first Azlan's supposed hand ball in the area was waved off by the referee despite protests from the X front line.

This was followed by Fakhrul's yellow for dissent as he was protesting the ref's call after not calling the offside trap and allowing Azhar to slip past and on to a one to one which fortunately for the X's didn't result in the ball in the back of the net.

Most DRM games have moments that are worth recalling and this game had it's fair share too. Saiful Goku who made his first DRM appearance in decades turned up and will instantly be remembered for that air-kick in the middle of the park, though much credit to him for being able to recover from that by not losing possession of the ball. Saiful Bulan lived up to his bruiser reputation and he was brushing off the boys all evening from his stride like as if they were flies. And there were several comical errors from both sides that should be best left unmentioned!

The controversy didn't end there, as it turned out that at the final whistle, there were actually 12 X players on the pitch, and apparently for the whole 2nd half which would explain alot! But the final score line was a just outcome for a game where everyone gave it their all and played with the most sportsman like of conduct. A rematch awaits!

Our next scheduled game will be a war of the generations. I'm proposing for Tuesday's friendly to be played between the generation divide. Here's how this will work;

If you were born before 1st January 1980, then you will be on the Generation X team.

If you were born on or after 1st January 1980, then you're with me on the Generation Y team.

It's as simple as that, its a showdown between Generation MTV against the Digital Generation.

Our Biggest Turn Up Ever!

We had 29 players turn up for yesterday's match, which most will agree is a new DRM record and what a game it turned out to be! We definitely had a headache trying to figure out how to make sure everyone had a fair chance of running out for the team, and there was definitely alot of sweaty jersey's being passed around, but it's a problem i'd love to have every game, thank you very much. Alot has been said about the team spirit in DRM FC, and i'd like to think yesterday proved just that. I always find DRM games a good place to catch up with people you might not necessarily have time to meet during the day, and to also meet new friends, and we had that in abundance yesterday.

I'd also like to welcome those new to the DRM family, and what a selection of internationals we now have.

Pedro & Javier from Venezuela : Hope yesterday's crash course in Malay will help you go along way with settling down in Brunei.

Pak Ari from Indonesia : He very nearly made a scoring debut on several occassions, and he looks like he will be a useful addition to the squad.

Ady Fadhli : Played well in midfield despite being in unfamiliar surroundings. Keep turning up for games mate.

We started the game fielding some very experienced DRM old-boys courtesy of Agent 81 and the first half line up defintely had a good mix of creativity, flair as well as composure. The midfield trio of Romeo, Dilah and Samsul dominated the centre of the park with their good link up play and support that it provided plenty of space upfront for our attack minded players to exploit. And exploit we did, Pachie who is consistently showing what a threat he is upfront with his tireless running and turns, provided a good foil for the more direct and powerful Haidi and they had several chances early on in the game to take first honours. Infact, a through ball from the left flanks supported by Dilah put Pachie through on goal and his goal bound shot would've found the back of the net had it not been for an unfortunate deflection from of all people, Haidi himself!

The goal eventually came when Pachie's determination to get on the scoresheet paid off, as he calmly jinked past three defenders and slotted in from the left flank in an Henry-esque move.
1-0 to DRM and we were flying high. ITB did look like they were capable of levelling the scores however, and had it not been for the astute defending from regular centre back Fakhrul and new boy Javier, we would definitely have had our goal breached. Meanwhile we continued to plug away at the ITB defense and eventually the second goal did come, this time after Pg Zul who was in marauding form, put through Zul on goal, and he did not dissapoint from inside the penalty area. 2-0 to DRM and we looked unstoppable. We had several more chances to put the game away before the end of the half, with Amir S who had come on for the hard working Romeo giving the Bandar guys a hard time, but he still has not been able to put his Liverpool CL Final hoodoo behind him.

The second half started with DRM leading by just the one goal as ITB were eventually able to open their scoring account late in the first. It was an entirely new team that kicked off in the second half, but an equally experienced line up. We were particularly strong on the flanks as Arch and Amir D on either side looked to build on the 1st half showing with quick mazy runs and pint point crossing. Hammry dominated the back line with his powerful presence and it was only when he left the field that ITB managed to put several more goals on the score-sheet. A quick flurry of substitutions from the DRM bench put new faces on the field and we were impressed with the detemination showed by the new boys. Perhaps our only undoing was just that, a little bit of disorganised chaos towards the end, and we were left pretty much exposed at the back during the counter-attacks. I have to mention the performances of the keeper in goal though, as he performed some near impossible acrobatic saves to thwart the ITB melees, headed by the B-League striker from Kasuka FC. The final scoreline didn't do justice to the way the second half was played though i have to say. We had several chances at 3 - 2 down to equalise, a few falling to new boy Pak Ari and mostly coming from the nasty pin point Amir D crosses, who playedhis first game since becoming a father.

This is how events unfolded earlier this evening...

DRM Syd supporters literally held their breath when Yazid successfully dodged and saved the ball by opponent, Black Balls in the 2nd minute after a 5.12pm kick-off. The game just came to life...

This was apparent when Black Ball's goalie had no chance against Fadhli's opening goal (sound familiar?) in the 4th minute. Twenty seconds later, the opposition broke through our defence and scored. In the 3rd and a half minute, Asqa would have scored the perfect header but he was not going to give up because he slipped the ball past the goalkeeper a minute and a half later.

Chances scoring a goal twice from corner kicks slipped through but a sweet goal by Hafiz in the 11th minute brought the score to 3-2. With a minute and a half left before the half-time whistle, the opponents stepped up their game and scored their second goal the beginning of the 15th minute.

At half-time, the score was 3-2 to DRMSyd.

Whatever Sulhi said to his fellow teammates during half-time certainly worked because Sulhi scored a 4th one for DRM, aided by Fadhli just minutes into the second half. The opposition kicked back by scoring 2 minutes later. In the 22nd minute, Faiq made a comeback to try and improve DRM Syd's game. The crowd went wild when our super-goalie,Yazid made a great reaction save - anything to not bring the game to a tie.

It was too good to be true. Black Balls brought the game to a tie when they scored a goal in the 24th minute. The score became 4-all.

With six minutes left in the game, it was hell hath no fury. Tempers of players heightened regarding some of the referee's decisions; so were the levels of testosterone. The cheers of supporters increased in volume. Huff and puff, DRM Syd would fight.

Our man of the match, our very own, wearing Alain Delon shorts today, Fadhli brought the house down when he broke the tie seconds before the end of the game. We won! We won!

It could be said that victory was written in the lines of destiny for DRM Sydney this evening. Veni, Vidi, Vici - We came, we sought, we conquered. In memory of their 5-win streak and sweet victory tonight, each were awarded a medal by MSO's Sports Representative.

DRM v Vissel Kobe FC Match Summary

It was a tough match, Vissel Kobe had 11 subs, we didn't have enough to make up a team in the 1st half. We had most of the possession, they did most of the scoring :S

We played better in the 2nd half with a full DRM team, though we had more chances to score we just weren't able to put the ball in the back of the net, until Aidil popped up with a solo run and went past the keeper. The guys who turned up still had fun nonetheless and that's the most important thing!

The team showed alot of fight and we didn't let our heads drop despite the big half time deficit and that's alot more character than any other team can say for themselves.

Highlight of the game : All the hot ladies running around the Mumong track. Reason why we let through so many goals? ;[

We also now know why Saiful Goku likes running there too!

Ampa 9 Snaps Courtesy of Kantalensa

Those of you who turned up for the Ampa 9 game may have noticed a gentleman standing by the sidelines the whole entire game with his fancy camera and lens kit. Recognised on cyberspace as 'Kantalensa' he is a friend and i suppose 'big brother' to the DRM Photography people. We'd invited him to take some shots of us DRM Bula folks in action, and he had graciously accepted the offer.

DRM v Ampa 9 Match Summary

It was a strange First 11 that lined up for this game against Ampa-9 almost reading like a roll call from DRM Golf with a debut for 'Gold Tee Maniac' Kamal Bahrom in goal and a 2007 first for 'Golf El-Kapitan' Pg Ahmad (sorry for missing you out the 1st time dude!! :p), 'The Freak' Fadle and Pg Shamhary. Even DRM Golf's infamous Lord of the Putt turned up for the kick-off but stopped short of putting on his boots and the blue & yellow. The second half also saw another DRM debut, new signing Azhan coming on in the centre of midfield and his performance gave us alot to be hopeful for.

As our regular referee was missing, Renny stepped in as a make-shift and hey it ain't an easy job, you give it a try!

We played the same team way back in February, where the game was won 5 - 4 and from the onset of today's game, it looked like it was going to be another high scoring affair! There was controversy within the first 10 minutes as Ampa-9 broke through the DRM defense to draw first blood. There were protests from the DRM defenders as they felt the Ampa-9 striker was offside, but the make shift referee had made his mind up. The goal was to stand!

Ampa-9 went up by a second goal, this time as a result of some neat passing on the right which led to Kamal being left stranded, 2-0!

DRM's finally managed to pull one back after threatening to do so on numerous occassions, the ball being played into the penalty area by Khairulizan, whose incisive pass managed to find Saiful R on the run. After running the length of the pitch from his wing-back position, his square ball across was met by Rahim who toe poked into goal!

A DRM second came shortly after, and it was probably the goal of the game as Pachie & Rahim showed some out of this world understanding with a series of one-two's, and Pachie wasn't gonna miss when given the chance to take a pot with his killer instinct from just outside the box.

There were a flurry of substitutions mid-way through the half, mostly from the lack of games in the recent past, but also to give the new 'padwans' a chance to blood themselves into the team. This unsettled the team somewhat as Ampa-9 managed to score another 3 goals before half time. Hailmey Alonso was instrumental in a number of the Ampa-9 plays, playing in the middle of the park and pulling all the strings. The referee also played his part if you were to listen to the complaints coming from the bench and the DRM back line.

DRM were unlucky not to have scored a super goal after some good midfield work from Romeo, who is showing signs of improving fitness levels and G Khai pushing up from defense, who were able to put Pachie in a position to strike and his shot went under the Ampa-9 keeper only to be denied by the upright.

The third DRM goalf of the half did come eventually and it came again from the flanks, this time Pg Shamhary providing the ammunition from the right, his cross in managing to avoid the Ampa-9 keeper's gloves and Rahim was again in the right place to pounce and steer the ball into the back of the net!

For almost the third game running, we came out of half time with more than enough players to field a completely new team. G Khai who played well at the back in the first half, decided to do one better and replace Kamal, who should be commended for some good first half saves, in goal. There was belief that DRM could overturn the 2 goal deficit and inspired by Amir S coming on the field, it seemed that the team were determined to deliver the goods.

Hammry worked tirelessly as usual in midfield, and linked well with Aizul who eventually was able to put Amir S into abit of space and he wasn't going to let a small thing, like Liverpool missing a chance to add some more silverware to their cabinets, get in the way of rounding the keeper and finding the corner of the net.

The second goal of the half for DRM came when Amir S managed to evade the offside trap as his jinking run met with a perfectly weighted through pass from the centre of the field and he was only thinking of one outcome once free to run goal-wards.

It was a shame we couldn't have scored a 6th which would have been the equaliser, but it was a fairly open half especially towards the end of the game, as Ampa-9 though tired and worn out still managed to retain a fair share of the possession. We did have our chances though, and several missed opportunities will be rued.

It was a fair outcome however, the only stinker in the game was Hailmey's yellow card for 'simulating' is i think the most appropriate way to describe what happened. The students continue to improve and look to be gaining more confidence as each game goes, and that's going to be key for DRM in the future!

I'd also like to thank Kantalensa for taking time out to stop by BSRC and take snaps of the game, which did make the team feel like a bunch of professionals for a brief moment. Looking forward to the results of that!

Agent 81's Boys

Yesterday's game marked a new step forward for DRM football as the highly exclusive 'Agency 81' opened its doors for business. Agent 81 has managed to sign some big name footballers on contract and is on the hunt for more prospective clients to represent. Speaking to Agent 81 post-game he stated that he was proud to have under his wings some very talented football players who would definitely boost his company profile and he will be annoucing several more signings in the near future. This is a boost for DRM football club as it definitely ups the standard of football that much more now that some selected players are playing on contract and have the incentive to turn up and deliver the results.

On a side note, Golden Buaya Agency also announced it's intention to sign on players on contracts, starting with some of the very promising players in DRM's youth team. Agent Gold Buaya is known for his coaching, mentoring and youth development expertise. Watch out for this space!

Tournament Analysis

The mini-football tournament was organised in a round-robin league format with 5 teams competing (BSP-DRM, Petronas Kings, Petronas Crown, SM-EP Lords, SM-EP Poyo). We went into the tournament with a squad of 5 and only through a last ditch effort at negotiating with the organisers were we able to draft an extra player in (Leny's boyfriend, Hil).

Match 1 : SM-EP Lords (0-2)

There was a little over-confidence going into this game, we thought we could stroke the ball around but underestimated the will of the opponent. Went down to an early goal from a penalty after Renny was adjudged to have knocked the Lords striker over. We were left chasing for the rest of the game, and though we kept pressing, none of us could find our way to goal. They scored a second late on from a counter-attack.

Match 2 : Petronas Kings (0-2)

Another game we should've won. We went into this game straight after our initial loss and our confidence was at a low. There were far too many occassions where we rushed into decisions when we should've been calm and composed. We let in 2 goals in the second half despite dominating ball possession! The score line really didn't do justice to our effort.

Match 3 : SM-EP Lords (3-0)

Scorers : Azlan, Sainy, Hil

We were given a 15 minute break and we took the opportunity to gather ourselves after the two consecutive losses. We were far better than the other teams and we had to start proving so. Legs rested, we started playing better football, finding space with off the ball runs and making the passes early rather than holding on to the ball. Azlan opened the scoring with a wicked turn and his right foot shot found the top corner. Limin then put Sai through on goal for a quick second goal. We scored the third late, when Azlan found space on the right and squared to Hil who had all the time in the world to put it in the back of the net.

Match 4 : Petronas Crown (2-1)

Scorers : Limin (2)

Riding high on our big 3-0 win, we were up against the team with the best record in the tournament and also the favourites for the trophy. They were big and skillful but fortunately no match for Limin! We went up 1-0 to an early 1st half goal, when Limin broke free of the defense and tucked the ball nicely past the on-rushing keeper. The score remained at half-time but for an unfortunate incident where Azlan twisted his ankle which effectively ruled him out of the rest of the game. Renny who also had a slip in the 1st half had no choice but to come back on in the game despite having to also hobble around. Petronas true to their form equalised soon after kick-off and they threatened to take the lead a few times but not for the heroics of Hairol our super goalie. Then the unthinkable happened, Limin with the ball on the left danced around the Petronas defender with a skillful Zidane-esque turn and found space. His left-foot shot went under the keeper's body and we were up 2- 1 again!

Tournament Results

All teams ended up with 2 wins & 2 losses, so final placing went down to goal difference. Petronas came 1st by virtue of their big wins early on, but the other 3 teams were all on zero goal difference. Our failure to score early on put us in 3rd place, a respectable position considering our bad start to the tournament. All in all a fine performance by the team. We enjoyed the rest of the day mingling with the fine ladies of Miri and ended with dinner at Fratini's.

Tendrill Announced as DRM FC Team Kit Sponsor

We finally have a kit sponsor for the 2007/2008 footie season! Yesterday afternoon, DRM Gaffa and Vice-Captain went to the sponsor's office premises to pick up a sponsorship cheque which will allow us to purchase our new team kit. Plans are to pick up a kit from Bangkok and have it printed with the DRM logo and sponsor's name on the front. Colour scheme of the new kit is still unknown. But watch this space!

DRM v F19 (The Real One!) Match Summary

This was our first official match in May and the fingers can only point at the DRM gaffa for slacking off (read: busy at work - sorry!) from his managerial duties. That didn't hinder the enthusiasm shown by the DRM squad though, as we turned up at BSRC that afternoon in our masses though we still somehow failed to come up with anyone who had experience between the goal posts. That job then fell onto Renny's 'not-so-safe hands' who despite having had several disastrous performances in goal previously volunteered again to do the same, promising not to be so bad at it this time round.

The match started well for us as we took advantage of the fact that we had plenty of experienced players on our side and we held control of possession quite easily. The first goal of the game however came against the run of play, as the pacy F19 forwards broke free of our defense and left Renny stranded in a 1-on-1 situation. The second came shortly after that from a similar play, with our defense holding the line high up the pitch, but failing to hold the offside trap from a low through ball from centre midfield. We were never gonna be able to depend on our keeper to save our skins there!

The pivotal point in the game came when another F19 counter-attack (by that point in the game, DRM were dominating play, but not scoring, whilst F19 would break one of our attacks, launch a counter and look extremely dangerous!) put their striker free on goal just inside the penalty box, but G Khai who was playing in centre defense somehow managed to launch his body in a suicidal tackle, which caught the ball cleanly and dispossesed F19. Our heads went back up again after that tackle, and almost immediately we felt like we had purpose in our game once more.

Rahim finally broke the deadlock, after Pachie who made the run in won a corner from the left wing. The resulting in-swinging corner was met with Rahim's brilliant half volley and there was nothing the keeper could do about that attempt. We managed to reduce the goal deficit to one and there was hope!

There were several other opportunities, mostly falling to Pachie who was looking very threatening with his tricky turns and skill. And it was Pachie who eventually equalised, when he was put through by Khai TSW on goal on the right, and his jink wrong footed the defender which put him in space for a thunderous effort which was only going to end up in the back of the net!

We made huge changes in the second half as there was virtually a new team waiting on the benches to replace the old tired legs from the 1st. The 2nd half team was alot younger and although inexperienced still managed to hold together very well, perhaps the only thing lacking was the killer instinct up front as we didn't really have anyone to get to the end of those crosses and through balls we were throwing forward! Hammry and Aizul worked tirelessly to create chances, and Rahimin's usual runs from everywhere caused the F19 guys some headaches. Credit also has to go to the students who proved that they are finally adjusting to their new team-mates and most of them ran their socks off (which is what students should be doing!).

We were only undone by dreadful goal-keeping in the second half, and i will shoulder the blame for that! Had it not been for the mistakes made we probably would've finshed the game with at least a respectable draw! Till the next match then... and hopefully we'll start with a proper goalie this time round :)

DRM FC v Kg Penanjong Match Summary

Penanjong scored their first goal quite early on in the game. They actually had several chances to score as DRM's back line found it hard to cope with their pace and energy upfront. The goal came after some confusion at the back as Fakhrul initially won control of the ball but was fouled in the penalty box. The referee waved play on, and the on rushing Penanjong striker took advantage of that by putting in a low cross which slipped through Yusriman's clasp for an easy tap-in.

Much to DRM's credit we simply weren't going to go down without a fight, and after that first goal, we fought to regain possession and control of the ball play. Arch and Khai playing wide on the flanks started getting into very threatening positions upfront which started opening up chances for our strikers Haidi and Julberg and it soon looked like we had a goal in us. The move started from midfield, when Khai put Arch through on the right wing, and his pace got him past the Penanjong back line. A simple cross in was met by Amir S who side footed the centre back and set Haidi up for a shot, which he ripped into the back of the net. 1 all and DRM were back in the game.

The rest of the half was a pretty even affair, DRM's defense looked like they were all on top form, with Dil's performance in right back worth a mention on his debut as he tracked back very well and save our skins on several occassions.

For their DRM debut, we threw the 'Student Brigade' version 2 into the lion's cage straight after half time and they seemed to settle well with a core of experienced DRM players like Amir S, Khai & Fakhrul in midfield pulling the strings. It seemed to work at first but a determined Penanjong side were always quicker, faster and meaner to the 50/50 balls and we conceded 3 goals over the course of the half as we were not able to deal with their onslaught. Aziem who showed glimpses of his silky skills, managed a header which just went wide of the post, whilst Ikmal partnering him upfront had several opportunities after his quick turns put him into space. Overall, we just weren't good enough to match those Penanjong boys as we lost a little bit of organization in midfield and hopefully we'll be able to remedy that in the next game!

For the 2nd game in a row, DRM's Gaffa was nowhere in sight at kick-off, and this time around the DRM kit and drinks were no where to be seen either! Instead he was holed up in some stupid &^"£-ing meeting where the big honchos of this company lost sight of reality and started talking gibberish. Not surprisingly, he walked out of that meeting feeling very lost and dazed!

The DRM game went ahead anyways, the opponents luckily had a spare yellow and grey kit which we borrowed and Vincent very generously put up some of his own $$ for some 100 Plus from BSRC. Can't say much about the 1st half as i wasn't there, except for the fact that it ended 0-0 at half time and that it was HOT!

The 2nd half was a very different affair from the first, the sun went down and the ground cooled off and it made for a more exciting game! The Majapahit young guns were the first to draw blood, a through ball from midfield confused our centre-backs Renny and Vince who had just come on, and they were able to take advantage of some sloppy defending to go up 1-0!

We fought back hard though, with Jami and Khai now playing in midfield and combining well to set up some excellent wing plays. Julberg's header glanced over the cross bar twice, and Haidi had a few goal scoring opportunities. Against that run of play, our opponents scored a second, after Renny's failed clearance went straight to the feet of their main striker and he rounded off Yus for their second goal. 2-0 to Majapahit.

We managed to take one back as soon as they had scored as our persistence paid off eventually, with Rahimin breaking free on the left flank after winning possession of the ball, and he set Amir S up nicely with a neat one-two. Amir S' run into the penalty box was met by Julberg who took the shot first time and ripped that ball into the back of the net. DRM claws back to 2 - 1!

That wasn't the end of it, Jami who was holding the centre midfield spot well put Khai through on the left shortly after that first goal and Khai who had a few chances before then, wasn't going to miss this opportunity! His shot from just off the penalty box sailed into the top right corner and DRM was back in the game!

We dominated most of the play from there on and when Hammry came on, we looked to be gunning for the lead for the first time, but luck was not to be on our side as a simple low cross from their right winger, which looked to be harmless ended up with the most disastrous of consequences! Both Yus the keeper and Renny went for the same ball together, and in comical fashion, the ball slipped off Yus's grip, bounced off Renny head and into the back of the net. As if the gaffa wasn't already having a bad day! 3 - 2 to Majapahit!

Kudos to the DRM guys for pulling their socks up once more though, as we showed that we weren't going to go down so easily. Amir S was orchestrating the attacks, and with Jami and Khai by his side we looked like we still had another goal in us, and it eventually came when after a mad scramble in the box, Haidi managed to take advantage of the keeper not being able to hold on to his first shot, by toe-poking the ball in to the back of the net. 3 - 3 the final score!

Alot happened in this game, and my memory seems to have failed me this time around. Worth mentioning is the midfield play especially in the second half, led by man-of-the-match G Khai pulling all the strings in the centre of the park. The small Arena pitch played into our favour, and we kept things tight and simple. Yusra didn't have much to do at the back in between the posts at all.

A full strength Brunei DRM defeated Liga Perdana challengers, Johor FC 3 - 1 in a convincing match infront of 20,000 partisan fans at the Hassanal Bolkiah stadium last night in Bandar Seri Begawan. Liga Perdana high-flyers are now off to a roaring start in the first half of the season, with man on a mission Haidi managing his third hat-trick of the season. The fleet-footed bald striker seems to be the man to watch out in Malaysia's top league and has been rumoured to have caught the interest of scouts from Asian football powerhouse, Japanese club Jubilo Iwata.

Things have been a little bit quiet here ... i just got back from leave and so things haven't really been happening as of late!

TSW/4 Match Summary

This was our first night game of the year and we were raring to go under the BSRC floodlights. The pitch was as slick as it gets after the heavy downpour in the morning and it was always going to be conducive for some good football, but were we in for a surprise!

The ball rarely left our possession in the first half hour of the game as we took advantage of the width of the pitch to play some breathtaking football. Hailmey and Hammry in midfield took charge of the game making sure that our more creative players like Khai and Danan had the freedom to roam and the space to move. Haidi has been in blistering form as of late and he was out to prove that his 'goal of the season' award last year was no fluke. But it was Dilah who took the first honours when he cut inside from the left flank and his canon right foot put the ball in the top right corner of the TSW/4 net. 1 - 0 to DRM...the floodgates were opened!

That didn't mean that we didn't have our fair share of defending, there were odd spells of TSW/4 counter-attacks, and their fleet footed strikers caused a few lung-bursting runs by our defenders, often with Yusriman our goalie for the day saving our necks at the last. His one-handed dive to deny them their goal in the first 30 minutes when the dipping ball looked to have all but crossed the line is definitely worth a mention.

We threw everything we had following that in search of a second, and we didn't have to wait long. Khai who was beginning to appear everywhere managed to put in an inviting cross into the penalty area, and the unmarked Julberg could not do better than to power it down for our second goal. It really looked one way traffic as we piled on the pressure with our movement and running off the ball and we pushed into areas that threatened a third goal which eventually came when Fadil who had just came on for Big Show was put through again by Khai and he slotted the ball in easily across goal for our third.

We tired out in the last 15 minutes of the half and much to TSW/4's credit they came alive from the dead and began to exert some say on ball possession. They did have Hammry in the way though, and he really showed why it wasn't going to be so easy to get through our defense.

The second half saw a number of changes, and the fresh legs we had to throw on meant that we were not gonna let the bar from our 1st half showing drop any. Rigel came on in the centre of the park, and he showed us that he can definitely mix it with his clean tackling and good distribution play. Haidi came back into the game in the 2nd half, hungry for a goal and he got his wish after some persistent running. Amir S playing in midfield pushed through a weighted pass which split the defense, and Haidi broke free of the offside trap and was left in a one-on-one situation with the keeper. He really wasn't gonna dissapoint from there, dummying once and twice before his low shot went under the keeper and straight into goal.

They managed a 2nd goal quite soon after that goal, when their pony-tailed striker was put through with a long ball over the defense, Renny who had been chasing was adjudged by the referee to have brought the guy down and he duly tucked the penalty away without any hesitance.

We were 4 - 2 up and coasting, when the troubles began. The opponents started to lose their cool and a few un-necessary tackles started flying in. Our Roberto Carlos like left-back, Noh mainly found himself at the end of several badly timed and unneccessarily violent tackles. The number of free-kicks we won in the 2nd half, it was funny how we didn't manage to score from one, the usually pin-point Fakhrul wasn't able to find his way to goal on the night. Despite that we weren't going to be intimidated, and we worked hard for a fifth, when Sulhi who had been slightly quiet all game popped up from the right with a square ball which Amir S wasn't going to let go to waste. It was 5- 2 to DRM!

Overall, despite the aggressiono, DRM played well enough to truly deserve the win. In hindsight, we maybe did abit to provoke the opponents but then again you only give what you get. Let that not tarnish the fact that we were the better team on the day, and that the guys in blue and yellow played their hearts out!

DRM v HSE Match Summary

1st half :

DRM Old Boy's started the game, a few of them appearing for the first time in DRM colours in a long while and they played like they've always played, in control and with purpose. Arch in particular caused alot of headaches for the HSE defense with his tireless running. Fadil was commanding at the back, always knowing when to pull the trap. Our first half goal came when Dilah's inswinging corner was met by Fakhrul who's powerful header punished the back of the HSE net. We tested the HSE defense several times after that goal, but never managed to break the deadlock, Dilah in particular having several chances which went sky high! Pg Shamhary who was playing for HSE had an excellent 1-1 chance to tie things up for HSE but was unlucky to have his shot canon off the crossbar!

2nd half :

The DRM New Boy's came on in the 2nd half, and we almost had a virtually new line-up. The back line was calm with the presence of Adi Tabang and Hammry playing the role of holding midfield. We finally managed to find the equaliser when Shaheeb was brought down in the penalty area, Adi Tabang took the honours and scored from the ensuing spot-kick when he tucked the ball into the bottom right corner. Shaheeb & Khai TSW gave us the edge in our chase for the lead with their skill and flair, but it was an old-boy in the midst, Aizul who orchestrated the attack which finally lead to that goal with his composure and an eye for an opening, when he put Victor through on the left flank. Victor managed to beat the offside trap and put in a low cross in, and Sulhi couldn't do better than tuck it in nicely with a superbly taken right foot volley which had enough sting to find the back of the net after the HSE keeper couldn't hold on to the shot. A definite early contender for goal of the season! We had another chance awhile later when Khai TSW's header went across the keeper but Yazid couldn't connect.

The match was played in the midst of a heavy tropical storm which made the game even more enjoyable! KRP even fielded a hot young russian lady in the second half which most likely contributed to the final score!

DRM v Ampa 9 Match Report

This was our first game in the new Boca colours and despite the poor weather form recently DRM went ahead with the game against Ampa-9 as most of us were raring to put on the blue & yellow!

Were we in for a shocker that afternoon or what? The overnight storm had made half the pitch unplayable and quick thinking from the DRM boys ensured we defended the half that more resembled the marshland area you get behind the Mumong by-pass than a football field. We didn't manage to take advantage of the better half of the field in the first 15 minutes though as we struggled to make any shots that troubled the Ampa-9 keeper. Infact, they did just the opposite as Yusra's athleticism was tested a few times although he managed to keep the scoreline at zero. Had it not been for that huge pond infront of our goal though it might have just been a different story altogether!

As our formation clearly wasn't working for us, we made some switches early on, pushing Hj Zul who had been playing sweeper, upfront and bringing Najib down to left back. Fakhrul also started to push up more from a holding midfield role and the change immediately proved to be pivotal as Hj Zul scored after a jinking solo run from the left, placing the ball into the bottom corner Thierry-Henry like. The DRM second goal came shortly after, when Haidi who previously had several chances to put DRM further in the lead won us a corner. As if his boots were on fire, Hj Zul scored direct from the corner for his second goal much to the shock of the entire Ampa-9 defense who we caught ball-watching!

Khairul who had also been working hard in the first half in his left-midfield role, then set up the third DRM goal, when his run on the left put Fakhrul free to tee-up his shot from outside the penalty area.

Half-time came, and we prepared ourselves for a tougher 2nd half attacking the pond end of the
pitch and defending the dry half. We felt that our opponents legs were tiring and so we decided to bring on the student brigade in the second half with the hope of out-running our opponents. We also knew that they would be of no use on the soggy half, so we played them in midfield and defense and it worked out well for us. Amir S who was playing for Ampa-9 on loan, was shadowed the whole game by Daus who matched his speed and tricks step for step. Airul helped break off several of the Ampa-9 attacks with his ball chasing and Sulhi did the almost impossible and scored from the pond end!

We also managed to score a 5th when Aizul & Danan's intelligent play on the better side (left side) of the pond end, put Danan free for a cross which set Hj Zul up nicely for a pop at goal and with the form he was on, he was never going to miss that. Yusra made some fine saves towards the end of the game but Ampa-9 still managed to score 4 past the DRM defense and it made for a tight finish.
